Compact 4-channel car amplifier — 50 watts RMS x 4

About the Rockford Fosgate Punch PBR400X4D

This lightweight packs a punch

Rockford Fosgate’s incredibly small Punch PBR400X4D 4-channel amp will put out 50 watts RMS to each of your front and rear speakers, giving you the power to fill your listening space with great-sounding music. You can also run this amp in 2-channel mode to drive a couple of high-performance speakers or subs with up to 200 watts RMS each.

Boosted Rail (BR) amp technology

This Punch Class BR amplifier generates this power from a very tiny case — literally the size of your hand. Boosted Rail amp technology uses capacitors and high-speed circuitry to boost the amp’s power supply voltage when needed, so it can handle musical peaks without missing a beat. Rockford Fosgate uses this new technology to create a remarkable amp that fits almost anywhere and delivers powerful sound.

Features that keep you rockin’

The amp also features speaker-level inputs with signal-sensing turn-on, allowing you to connect into almost any system without having to run a turn-on lead back to the receiver. An extruded aluminum heat sink combines with Rockford Fosgate’s heat management technology to make sure your tunes keep rockin’ — even when you’re playing loud.

Easy to set for optimum performance

The PBR400X4D features Rockford Fosgate’s C.L.E.A.N. technology (Calibrated Level Eliminates Audible Noise) — a setup system that ensures your music will sound as clean and powerful as possible. Just download the setup tones from Rockford Fosgate, adjust the receiver volume until a red clip light on the amp goes out, then turn the amp gain up until a blue light comes on. It’s that simple. When your receiver reaches maximum clean volume, you’ll get maximum clean power from your Punch amp. At quiet listening levels, you’ll hear less background noise and more of your music.

Features

Boosted Rail Technology: The PBR400X4D full-range Class-D amplifier uses Boosted Rail Technology (BRT), an efficient design that doesn’t use a switching power supply. The super-efficient PBR400X4D has an extruded aluminum heatsink to dissipate heat. Its compact design makes it ideal for motorcycles, ATVs, golf carts, and side-by-sides.

Differential Inputs: The PBR400X4D is compatible with either line-level (RCA) or speaker-level inputs. The included Molex-to-RCA harnesses are used in both cases. If you are not using RCA cables, you can cut off the RCA connections and solder the harnesses to speaker wires from the source unit.

Auto Turn-on/Remote Out: When using speaker-level inputs, the amp will automatically turn on when it senses an input signal (4 volt minimum). This is helpful when connecting the amp to a factory radio without a turn-on lead. In addition, when using speaker-level inputs, the remote terminal becomes an output, allowing you to daisy-chain the turn-on signal to another amplifier.

LEDs: The Power/Protect LED on the right side of the amp illuminates blue when the amp is turned on and operating normally. It illuminates red when one of the protection circuits has engaged (short circuit, impedance too low, or temperature too high). On the left side are three LEDs that glow red when clipping occurs on the input, left output, or right output. This C.L.E.A.N (Clipping Calibrated Level Eliminates Audible Noise) level-setting technology helps you to obtain the optimum input and output signals.

Controls

Crossover: The front and rear channels have independent Butterworth 12dB/Octave crossovers with separate 4-way switches. You can set the crossovers to Low-Pass (fixed at 80Hz), All-Pass (crossover bypassed), High-Pass (fixed at 60Hz), or High-Pass (fixed at 80Hz).

Gain: The front and rear channels also have independent input gain controls, adjustable from 150mV to 11V.

2CH/4CH Switch: You can connect four channels or two channels to the amplifier’s input. The 2CH/4CH switch lets you select the number of channels connected to the amplifier. When 2CH is selected, all four channels receive the signal from the Ch1/Ch2 input.

Connections

Power Connections: The power, ground, and remote turn-on terminals are c-clamps on a removable plug. Each terminal will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire (Rockford recommends 8-gauge minimum for the power and ground wires). A flat blade screwdriver (not supplied) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals. There is no fuse on the body of the amp, so an external 60-amp fuse (not included) must be installed in the power wire. If a wiring kit is used that includes a different value fuse, the original should be replaced with a 60-amp fuse.

Signal Input: The included input harnesses have Molex plugs on one end (plugs into the amp) and female RCA plugs on the other. When using speaker-level inputs the RCA ends can be cut off and the four individual wires are used.

Speaker Output: The included speaker output harnesses have Molex plugs on one end (plugs into the amp) and tinned bare wires on the other.
