Product Research
Marine Receiver
Marine Design: The Hertz HMR 20 digital media receiver is marine designed with an IP66-rating, as well as meets ASTM-D4329 standards for UV resistance and ASTM-B117 for salt fog operability. IP66-rating means that the receiver is resistant against water-spray and resists dust intrusion. A rubber cover is also included to further protect the unit’s front-panel when not in use.
Note: This unit is only water resistant; it should not be submerged in water.
Mounting Options: The HMR 20 marine receiver requires a rectangular cutout in the bulkhead for inserting the chassis. Four screws (supplied) fasten the unit against the mounting surface, and holds the integrated waterproof gasket against the bulkhead. A cardboard template is supplied to assist you with the cutout and drilling the screw holes.
- Cutout Dimensions: 4.795″ (w) x 1.995″ (h) x 4.5″
- Front-Panel Dimensions: 5.755″ (w) x 4.125″ (h) x 1.375″ (d)
- Screw-Hole Spacing: 5.195″ (w) x 1.995″ (h) x 1.0″ (d)
Note: This unit will not fit in a standard Single-DIN (1″) or Double-DIN (2″) size opening.
3.0″ IPS Display: The Hertz HMR 20 receiver features a 3.0″ full-color TFT IPS display that supports song/artist text info and album art. The large 3.0″ full-color TFT IPS display remains visible even during bright sunlight. You can adjust the brightness of the front-panel display from 0-8.
Variable Color Button Illumination: The unit’s front-panel contains a 3-way rotary knob to operate volume, as well as navigate and select menu settings. Along the bottom edge of the front-panel and around the rotary knob are 7 backlit push-button controls to operate Power/Source, Dimmer, Zones, Menu, Play/Pause, and Previous/Next Track functions. You can also adjust the backlight color for the button illumination.
Note: Every time a button is pressed, the unit will output a beep tone (this can be turned off).
Optional Remote Control: The HMR 20 is compatible with the Hertz HMC U1 wired remote control (sold separately). The remote is IPX7-rated. It offers push-button controls for Power, Source, Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, Volume Up/Down, and Mute. Up to 3 HMC U1 wired remotes can be connected.
Low Voltage Alert: A built-in alert notifies you when the +12VDC supply voltage drops below 10 volts. If triggered, the unit will enter “Safe Mode” and mute audio output. A warning will also display on-screen with instructions to turn the unit off until normal operating voltage is restored.
Variety Of Sources
Bluetooth Audio Streaming w/ aptX: Thanks to built-in Bluetooth 5.0 with support for A2DP/AVRCP, you are able to stream stored music, music apps, and other audio content on your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone or tablet device to the Hertz HMR 20. In addition to support for the standard SBC Bluetooth codec, the HMR 20 also supports aptX for higher quality “CD-like” music streaming from many newer Android OS devices. The system will even provide basic playback controls such as Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track (advanced playback control will still need to be done from your Bluetooth source device). In addition, the Hertz marine receiver will display song/artist/album text info (no album art). The unit has a wireless Bluetooth range of approximately 30′.
Note: This unit does not support Bluetooth hands-free communication (HFP) for making or answering phone calls.
USB-A 2.0 Port: The Hertz marine receiver is outfitted with a rear-panel USB-A 2.0 port attached to the rear-chassis via a 4″ cable and comes with a 58″ USB extension cable for connection of a USB MSC (Mass Storage Class) device, such as a USB thumbdrive – up to 64GB. Your USB MSC device must be formatted in FAT or FAT 32. You’ll be able to play MP3/WMA/WAV music files (up to 16-bit/44kHz) from your USB thumbdrive. It can recognize up to 256 folders and 999 files. The unit offers control of Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, and Repeat/Random functions. It also offers song/artist text information, along with album art.
Note: The USB port does not support audio playback from Apple iOS devices, Android OS devices, USB thumbdrives, or USB card-readers.
Aux Input: The Hertz marine receiver is equipped with a rear-panel stereo RCA Aux input attached to rear-chassis via a 6.5″ cable. The stereo RCA aux input allows you to connect an external audio device with a stereo RCA output. If you have a source device that has a 3.5mm output, then you will need a stereo RCA-to-minijack adapter (sold separately).
AM/FM Tuner: The built-in AM/FM tuner offers manual, seek, and preset tuning. You can store up to 18 FM and 12 AM preset stations. The unit does not offer direct preset buttons, Instead, you’ll have to scroll through its on-screen menu to access radio presets. You can also select between North America or European tuning.

These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.
Sub Control: The subwoofer preouts feature a variable low-pass crossover (80/120/160Hz) and level control (-30 to + 10).
